Onsite solution for the vehicle dismantling industry
Electric vehicle batteries require special safety measures, early warning systems, and rapid response handling to reduce risks to people, buildings, and the environment.
Both EV battery fires and intruders pose safety risks to the vehicle dismantling industry.
The Challenge: EV Battery Fires
The increasing number of electric vehicles has made the handling of lithium-ion batteries a new safety challenge.
These batteries contain high voltage and may present a fire hazard if damaged during dismantling or storage.
Lithium-ion battery fires can develop rapidly and are difficult to extinguish. They may also release toxic smoke and hazardous gases that are harmful to inhale. Vehicle dismantling facilities must therefore establish safe procedures, dedicated storage areas, and improved monitoring systems to reduce the risk of battery fires.
Onsite Technologies offers advanced security solutions that combine video surveillance, thermal sensors, and a 24/7 staffed control center.
Vehicle Dismantling and Fire Protection
The system can detect abnormal heat development in batteries or vehicles before a fire starts and send real-time alarms to operators.
If there is a fire risk, operators can analyze the situation, notify emergency services, and activate targeted extinguishing systems such as foam systems or remotely controlled extinguishing cannons in designated risk zones.
This makes it possible to stop fires at an early stage and limit damage to facilities and equipment.
Quarantine Zone for EV Batteries
It is recommended that batteries placed into storage first be kept in a quarantine zone with thermal monitoring. This allows operators to verify that the battery maintains a stable and even temperature before it is moved into regular storage.
The quarantine zone should be positioned so that an unstable or burning battery can quickly be removed, thereby reducing the risk of fire spread and damage.
Electronic Fences
An electronic fence is a virtual security zone created using cameras and sensor technology. The system allows an area to be defined where movement automatically triggers an alarm without the need for physical fences or barriers.
At the same time, exclusion zones can be created within the monitored area where normal activity is permitted — for example where employees or vehicles operate for legitimate reasons. This enables efficient monitoring of critical areas while reducing false alarms and adapting security measures to actual operations.
Heat-sensitive sensors identify abnormal heat development or fire outbreaks.
Electronic fences consist of camera surveillance, thermal sensors, and a staffed control center.
From the control center, operators can quickly assess the situation and take action. Intruders can be warned directly through loudspeakers, or operators can transfer video feeds and communicate with police patrols.
What Is Critical During Incidents at Vehicle Dismantling Facilities?
- Early detection: The system identifies intruders or unauthorized persons entering the facility. Manual assessment determines the threat level and initiates appropriate measures.
- Rapid response: Security operators manually assess the threat and take action immediately.
- Direct intervention: Intruders can be warned directly via loudspeakers, or operators can transfer live video and communicate with police patrols.
Fire Protection Products
Fire Extinguishing Trailer for Vehicle Dismantling Facilities
On larger sites, it can be challenging to have an effective extinguishing solution with sufficient capacity while still being mobile and easy to operate.
The foam extinguishing trailer is suitable for all types of businesses with fire risks, including construction tunnels, recycling facilities, industrial plants, and business parks with or without industrial fire brigades.
Onsite Foam Extinguisher XL50
This mobile firefighting unit produces approximately 700 liters of extinguishing foam from a 50-liter premix solution. It requires no pump or electrical connection and operates entirely on pressure. The extinguishing foam is 100% non-toxic and biodegradable. The product is certified to the highest standards, ensuring compliance with strict fire safety requirements.
